Protected gate drivers ensure safe operation

Power Integrations offers plug-and-play gate drivers with enhanced protection features for 62-mm SiC MOSFET and Si IGBT modules rated up to 1700 V. The Scale-2 2SP0230T2x0 dual-channel gate drivers deploy short-circuit protection against overcurrent conditions in less than 2 µs. These ready-to-use devices also include advanced active clamping to protect switches from overvoltage during turn-off, enabling higher DC link operating voltages.

Drivers employ the company’s Scale-2 technology, which the company says results in higher levels of integration, smaller size, more functionality, and enhanced system reliability. They feature an electrical interface with built-in DC/DC power supplies. Reinforced isolation allows operation up to 1700 V. According to Power Integrations, this is 500 V higher than conventional drivers, which are typically limited to 1200 V.

The plug-and-play components afford design flexibility, since the same hardware can be used to drive either SiC MOSFET or Si IGBT modules. Target applications include railway auxiliary converters, offboard EV chargers, and power grid voltage regulators.

The Scale-2 2SP0230T2x0 134×62-mm gate drivers are available for sampling. Contact your local sales representative for pricing.
