OCXOs assist GPS-enabled defense systems

Endura Epoch MEMS oven-controlled oscillators (OCXOs) from SiTime boost the resiliency of defense positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems. When the PNT system loses its GPS signal due to spoofing, jamming, or other disruptions, the Endura OCXO provides an ultra-stable local clock signal until the trusted GPS signal becomes available again. Endura oscillators achieve long holdover with less than 3.0-µs time error after 12 hours without GPS synchronization.

More reliable than quartz OCXOs, the Endura MEMS silicon devices operate under harsh conditions, such as thermal shock, airflow, mechanical shock, and vibration. At 20,000 g, their shock survivability is up to 20X better than quartz crystal oscillators. Frequency stability over temperature is ±1 ppb from -40°C to +95°C. According to SiTime, the devices offer up to 70X better g-sensitivity and up to 30X better reliability compared to quart oscillators.

Endura Epoch components offer programmable frequencies from 10 MHz to 220 MHz. They can be used in aerospace and defense equipment, including radar systems, field and airborne radios, and satcom terminals. They come in small surface-mount packages that are 9.0×7.0×3.6 mm and weigh just 0.35 g.

Samples of the Endura Epoch MEMS OCXOs will be available for select customers early in 2024.
