USB4 device controller gains USB-IF certification
The VL832 USB4 endpoint device controller from Via Labs has achieved USB4 certification from the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF). Offering data transfer rates of 20 Gbps and 40 Gbps, the VL832 chip integrates a USB 3.2 hub, USB 2.0 hub, and DisplayPort 1.4 output interface to afford connectivity for such devices as multifunction adapters and docking stations.
In USB4 40-Gbps mode, the VL832 supports full DisplayPort HBR3 bandwidth of 32.4 Gbps. The USB 20-Gbps hub allows multiple USB 10-Gbps devices to operate a full speed on supported host platforms. The increased display bandwidth of the VL832 aligns with display trends transitioning to QHD (2560×1440 pixels) and higher resolutions. It also supports higher refresh rates, including uncompressed 4K at 120 Hz or even 240 Hz with display stream compression. Further, the device can run up to four 4K displays at a consistent refresh rate of 60 Hz.
Housed in a 10×10×1.03-mm flip-chip CSP, the VL832 provides five downstream USB ports comprising one USB 2.0 port and four USB 10-Gbps ports. When paired with the VL108 USB PD controller with extended power range (EPR) support, compatible host systems can achieve charging rates of 140 W or more.
The VL832 USB4 endpoint device controller is listed on the USB-IF integrator’s list under TID 10033. It is available now in quantity. Contact sales@via-labs.com.
