Retimers boost PCIe 6.x connectivity

Astera Labs has expanded its Aries PCIe/CXL Smart DSP retimer portfolio with devices that ensure robust PCIe 6.x and CXL 3.x connectivity. Doubling bandwidth to 64 GT/s per lane with automatic link equalization, Aries 6 retimers enable critical connectivity for AI server platforms and cloud infrastructure.

The protocol-aware, low-latency retimers integrate seamlessly between a root complex and endpoints, extending the reach threefold. They maintain signal integrity by compensating channel loss up to 36 dB at 64 GT/s with PAM4 signaling. Aries 6 also boasts low power at 11 W typical for a PCIe 6.x 16-lane configuration.

Aries 6 retimers are available in 16-lane and 8-lane lane variants to support PCIe 6.x and PCIe 5.x applications. They also come in multiple form factors, including silicon chips, Smart Cable modules, and boards. Seamless upgrading from second-generation Aries 5 retimers to third-generation Aries 6 is facilitated through adherence to industry-standard footprints.

Astera will demonstrate the Aries 6 retimers at this month’s NVIDIA GTC 2024 AI conference and expo.
