MCUs provide ML acceleration at the edge

PSoC Edge, a series of MCUs from Infineon, leverages hardware-assisted machine learning (ML) acceleration for responsive compute and control applications. The microcontrollers are based on an AI-capable Arm Cortex-M55 processor with Helium technology that boosts ML/DSP performance. They also employ an Arm Ethos-U55 micro neural processing unit, an Arm Cortex-M33 processor, and Infineon’s NNLite, a low-power hardware accelerator for neural networks used in ML and AI applications.

PSoC Edge devices enable end products to be more intelligent and intuitively usable by improving human-machine interaction and adding contextual awareness. Always-on sensing and response make them well-suited for IoT and industrial use cases, such as smart home, security, wearables, and robotics. On-chip memories include nonvolatile resistive random-access memory (RRAM) and can be expanded through the MCU’s high-speed, secured external memory support.

Infineon’s ModusToolbox software offers a collection of development tools, libraries, and embedded runtime assets. Additionally, the software tools integrate with Imagimob Studio, an edge AI development platform that enables end-to-end ML development.
