DC/DC converter increases 5G radio head power

The NE070DC58AZ DC/DC converter from OmniOn boosts and regulates the nominal -48-VDC output provided by the Infinity S or Infinity M power system to -58 VDC. This latest addition to the Infinity family of products helps ensure constant boosted voltage output to cellular tower radio heads during normal operation, as well as in the event of an outage requiring battery backup.

The -58-VDC output is provided to an integrated, common system bus structure and is then deployed to loads through pluggable DC breakers. Boosted voltage extends the reach of remote radio heads and reduces current flow in cables. This, in turn, decreases heat loss and improves overall system efficiency. Converters can be connected in parallel for larger loads and with N+1 redundancy.

Medium-voltage Infinity DC power systems are configured in racks or cabinets to ease 5G and wireless infrastructure expansion. Boost converter slots and associated load circuits can be integrated into the Infinity power plants during the build process. Dual-voltage systems already deployed in the field can be retrofit to support the -58-V boost capability.
