Microphone array advances acoustic detection

The NOVA32 evaluation kit from sensiBel features a spiral array of 32 optical MEMS microphones for edge AI acoustic-detection applications. An XMOS XCORE.AI processor synchronizes the microphone data into a single 24-bit, 32-channel USB audio stream for downstream beamforming, source localization, and acoustic imaging.

Microphone performance is critical in acoustic-detection systems. sensiBel’s 32 SBM100B microphones have low equivalent input noise of 14 dBA. They also provide a 132-dB dynamic range, 80-dBA signal-to-noise ratio, and 146-dB acoustic overload point.
NOVA32 has a plug-and-play USB interface for AI development platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson and is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux. Compatibility with TDM architectures supports phase alignment, reduces signal lines, and enables scalable beamforming. Target applications include drone detection, industrial predictive maintenance, and environmental noise mapping.
The NOVA32 evaluation kit is available now. More information can be found on the sensiBel Evaluation Kits page.
