Software eases embedded GUI development

The complimentary Microchip Graphics Suite (MGS) lets designers create sophisticated embedded GUIs for 32-bit MCUs and MPUs. Designed to easily integrate with Microchip’s broad portfolio 32-bit devices, MGS works with multiple development platforms, including MPLAB Harmony v3 and Linux environments. Additionally, the suite helps improve reusability across projects and simplify design complexities.

Compositional tools in MGS include a WYSIWYG drawing screen and tools for layer management and widget editing. Also included is a simulator for hardware-free prototyping. By using the MPLAB Code Configurator (MCC), the simulator builds the MCC-generated C code in either web or native mode. In web mode, the tool creates an HTML file that can run on most web browsers with simulated touch interactivity. In native mode, the simulator enables debugging of the GUI on a Windows desktop computer.

MGS can build GUIs for both resource-constrained devices with lower memory and system requirements and high-performance devices featuring tablet-sized touchscreens and high-fidelity video playback. It supports displays ranging from monochrome OLEDs to 1080p 16.7M color TFTs, with interfaces like MIPI DSI, LVDS, RGB, SPI, and HDMI, as well as touchscreens with 2D/3D gesture support.

The Microchip Graphics Suite is available now and free for downloading here.
