Kyocera-AVX launches supercapacitor modules
Series-connected supercapacitor modules in the SCM series from Kyocera-AVX provide strong pulse power handling with high capacitance and low ESR. The double-layer, electrochemical supercapacitor modules can be used by themselves or in conjunction with primary or secondary batteries to extend battery life and backup time or to provide instantaneous power pulses.
SCM modules are rated for operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to +65°C and lifetimes that extend to millions of cycles. The series supports active cell balancing and withstands high current, vibration, and frequent charge/discharge cycles.
The initial release of the SCM series comprises five devices:
SCMA63K586SPPB2 is rated for 16 V, 58 F (+30%/-10%), 5 mA DCL, and 15 mΩ ESR DC and comes in a 226.2×48.6-mm plastic case with terminal screws.
SCMA63S586SPPB2 is rated for 160 V, 5.8 F (+30%/-10%), 25 mA DCL, and 150 mΩ ESR DC and comes in a 364.5×234-mm plastic case with terminal screws.
SCMZ1EK507STAB2 is rated for 16 V, 500 F (+30%/-10%), 6 mA DCL, and 2.5 mΩ ESR DC and comes in a 418×68-mm aluminum case with a 4-pin connector.
SCMZ1EP1F6STAB2 is rated for 48 V, 165 F (+30%/-10%), 6 mA DCL, and 5.22 mΩ ESR DC and comes in a 418×194-mm aluminum case with a 4-pin connector.
SCMZ85P836STAB2 is rated for 48 V, 83 F (+30%/-10%), 3 mA DCL, and 9 mΩ ESR DC and comes in a 418×194-mm aluminum case with a 4-pin connector.
Applications for the SCM series of supercapacitor modules include heavy industrial equipment, grid storage, energy harvesting. GSM/GPRS wireless communications, and automotive vehicles. Modules are available from DigiKey and Mouser.
