Image sensor delivers 16:10 aspect ratio

Omnivision developed its OV05C10 5.2-Mpixel color image sensor specifically for 16:10 aspect ratio laptops, tablets, and IoT devices. The backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor employs a 1/4.7-in. optical format and features 1.12-µm pixels, staggered high dynamic range (HDR), and 1024 bytes of embedded one-time programmable memory.

With 5.2-Mpixel (2888×1808) resolution, the OV05C10 has plenty of pixels for video conferencing. Auto framing automatically adjusts the camera’s field of view to keep the person speaking at the center of the image, while cropping out distracting backgrounds. The sensor also supports AI features like human presence detection, which helps extend the battery life of portable devices.

The OV05C10 image sensor is built on the company’s PureCell Plus pixel technology for improved sensitivity, angular response, and full-well capacity. PureCell Plus also reduces noise for better signal-to-noise ratio and higher dynamic range. Dual-exposure staggered HDR timing at 5.2 Mpixels and 60 frames/s enhances image quality in both bright and dark environments.

The OV05C10 image sensor is sampling now, with mass delivery in February 2024.
