GaN switcher IC handles 1250 V
Joining Power Integrations’ InnoSwitch3-EP family is a GaN power supply IC that integrates a 1250-V PowiGaN primary-side switch. The InnoSwitch3-EP series of off-line CV/CC QR flyback switcher ICs offers a variety of switch options, including 725-V silicon, 1700-V silicon carbide, and PowiGaN 750-V, 900-V, and now 1250-V varieties. In addition to the high-voltage power switch, these devices provide primary and secondary controllers, a synchronous rectification driver, and FluxLink safety-isolated feedback.
Switching losses for the 1250-V PowiGaN technology are less than a third of that seen in equivalent silicon devices at the same voltage. The resulting power conversion efficiency, as high as 93%, enables compact flyback power supplies that can deliver up to 85 W without a heatsink.
Designers using the InnoSwitch3-EP 1250-V ICs can specify an operating peak voltage of 1000 V, which allows for industry-standard 80% derating from the 1250-V absolute maximum. This headroom is useful in both industrial applications and power grid environments, where robustness is an essential defense against grid instability.
Prices for InnoSwitch3-EP 1250-V devices (INN3629C-H606) in InSOP-24D packages start at $3 each in lots of 10,000 units. Samples are available now, with volume-shipment lead times of 16 weeks.
