Capacitive-sensing MCUs improve SNR

Microcontrollers in Infineon’s PSoC 4000T family offer capacitive sensing with a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of >5:1 and strong liquid tolerance. According to Infineon, its fifth-generation Capsense technology provides ten times higher SNR and ten times lower power consumption than previous generations.

The always-on touch sensing capability of the PSoc 4000T offers human machine interface (HMI) operation with low active and standby power consumption to extend operating life in battery-powered products. Capsense enables interactive user interfaces for applications like proximity gestures, capacitive sliders, capacitive trackpads, small size touchscreens, wear detection, and liquid level sensing. It also supports both self and mutual capacitive sensing techniques.

Comprising 15 variants, the PSoC 4000T family features a 32-bit MCU subsystem powered by an Arm Cortex-M0+ CPU running at 24 MHz or 48 MHz. Operating voltage ranges from 1.71 V to 5.5 V. Deep sleep mode offers 6-µA always-on touch sensing, while active touch detection and tracking consumes 200 µA on average.

Devices are available now in a variety of packages with 32 kbytes or 64 kbytes of flash and 4 kbytes or 8 kbytes of SRAM.
