Image sensors facilitate machine vision tasks
Joining Samsung’s ISOCELL Vizion sensor lineup are the Vizion 63D time-of-flight (ToF) sensor and the Vizion 931 global shutter sensor. Tailored for robotics and extended reality (XR) applications, the sensors leverage the company’s ISOCELL pixel technology for improved image quality.
The Vizion 63D is an indirect ToF (iToF) sensor that measures the phase shift between emitted and reflected light to sense its surroundings in three dimensions. Samsung says it is the first iToF sensor with a built-in image signal processor. It can precisely capture 3D depth information without the help of another chip, enabling up to a 40% reduction in system power consumption compared to its predecessor.
The Vizion 63D also boasts high quantum efficiency, reaching 38% at 940 nm. Based on a 3.5-µm pixel size, the sensor delivers a resolution of 640×480 within a 1/6.4-in. optical format.
With its global shutter, the Vizion 931 image sensor captures sharp, undistorted images of moving objects. It features a resolution of 640×640 pixels and quantum efficiency of 60% at 850 nm. Additionally, the Vizion 931 supports multidrop operation, which seamlessly connects up to four cameras to the application processor using a single wire.
ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931 sensors are currently sampling to OEMs worldwide.
