MAC-PHY connects MCUs to 10Base-T1S networks

Microchip’s LAN8650/1 combines a media access controller (MAC) and Ethernet PHY to enable low-cost MCUs to access 10Base-T1S automotive networks. A standard serial peripheral interface (SPI) allows the LAN8650/1 to interface with nearly any 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit MCU, including those that do not have a built-in Ethernet MAC. The 10Base-T1S Ethernet PHY transmits 10 Mbps over a single balanced pair and conforms to the IEEE 802.3cg-2019 standard.

The LAN8650/1 is equipped with time-sensitive networking (TSN) support, which permits synchronized timing across far-reaching Ethernet networks. Time synchronization is critical for many automotive applications, such as advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).

Compliant with AEC-Q100 Grade 1 requirements for enhanced robustness in harsh environments, the LAN8650/1 operates over the extended temperature range o -40°C to +125°C. It is also functional safety ready and intended for use in ISO 26262 applications.
