NETWORK FOR RAILWAYS

The world’s first commercial 1900MHz (n101) 5G solution that comprises of Nokia’s 1900MHz (n101) 5G
radio network has been announced by Nokia radio network equipment.
and Deutsche Bahn in conjunction with the 5G
Standalone (SA) core, representing a significant Reference: ‘Nokia and Deutsche Bahn launch World’s First 1900MHz
5G Network for Railways’, Digitalisation World, 16th. September
breakthrough in railway technology.
The advancement will lay the foundation for the
Future Railway Mobile Communication System
(FRMCS), which aims to enhance railway operations
through increased digitalisation, capacity and
service reliability, marking a substantial leap from the
traditional GSM-R system.
The deployment, conducted at Deutsche Bahn’s
digital railway test field in the Ore Mountains, features
built-in failover mechanisms, self-healing capabilities
and real-time monitoring. It will support the European
FP2-MORANE-2 project that seeks to advance rail
digitisation throughout Europe.
The agreement extends Deutsche Bahn’s
collaboration with Nokia’s 5G SA core and 3700MHz
(n78) radio network, presenting an augmented
